I think you can route the system sound into SC via software like Jack. And there are a number of commercial products, e.g., Audio Hijack for Mac, that will record system/browser sound.

Hi,

For sure ! If you use linux, sc relies on the jack audio server. It
suffices to route the outpout of the software reading the stream (which,
incidently, should be jack-compatible) into the input of sc.

mplayer should fit that task.

I’ve tried and tried to get Soundflower to work properly on my Mac. I don’t know what it is that I don’t understand; maybe I’m over complicating the configuration. If you get it to work, I’d love to hear about it.

s.options.inDevice = "Soundflower (2ch)"
s.options.outDevice = "Built-in Output"
s.boot

e.g.
{Out.ar(0, SoundIn.ar([0, 1]))}.play // do whatever you need to do

setup sound source (e.g. system audio, video player etc.) to use "Soundflower (2ch)" instead of built-in output.

Thanks, Michael. I think maybe what confused me is there’s no need for a second routing step for output as there is with Jack, if for example, you’re routing from SC to Live to the system in order to monitor. I’ll keep at it. I wish it were a little more actively supported but it seems to work OK as it is.
