Discussion:
Quarks, Extensions, Plugins: what's the status?

Hi!

I've been using SC since versions 3.3, on Mac, and I am now rather confused
about the situation with different extras to the vanilla SC. I mainly would
like to ask what will be the way forward with this for SC 3.7, when it
finally comes out... Will it all be Quarks? Will there be some sort of
unified framework for downloading and managing all of this?

The Quarks.gui doesn't work anymore "out of the box", at least on recent
MacOS versions, and correcting this is far from easy nowadays, even if one
goes to the trouble of installing Developer Tools, or searching all over the
net for an svn binary. Extensions and plugins need a manual installation,
and this is rather confusing for new users like my students.

So... What's the deal? Any news from the developers about this?

Thanks

Pablo

tl/dr:

downloading the whole set from:
http://sourceforge.net/p/quarks/code/HEAD/tree/
(click download shapshot) is the easiest way

there have been a few attempts to make a new quarks system,

personally I prefer just using npm (node js) to install packages.
but I that's not the easiest way for everybody.
